Webiva releases SaaS hosting platform

Webiva, a Boston-based open-source content management company, announced this week the release of a new SaaS hosting platform. Webvia is built on Ruby-on-Rails, and the new service option provides a way for web developers to build a Ruby-on-Rails site without having to maintain it on their own servers, greatly simplifying the web development process.

Pascal Rettig, CEO and co-founder of Webiva explains this is a natural extension of the Webiva open source product. "The CMS has been available as an open-source system, but what's been launched is a SaaS platform that allows people to build sites with Webiva without having to install the system." He adds "The site Webiva.com is what is new (the existing sites, Webiva.org and Webiva.net are not)."

In fact, over the past couple of years Liberty Concepts, a Boston-based political consulting firm, has used the stand-alone version of Webiva to help senatorial, congressional and gubernatorial candidates build websites around their candidacies. Jonathan Karush, CEO of Liberty Concept says Webiva has made it easier to build custom sites quickly. "It has powered some of the nation's most recognizable advocacy campaigns over the past two years," he says.

Rettig explains the strength of the platform. "Until recently there were two CMS options: A blog engine that's user-friendly but limited, or a full-stack CMS that's powerful, but complex to manage. Webiva offers the best of both, a Rails-based system with the accessibility of a blog engine and all the features of a big CMS on the back-end."

The hosted version brings yet another option for those companies who want to use Webvia, but lack the resources to host it themselves.
