Vasont releases web XML editing tool
Vasont released their new web-based XML editing tool, called Vasont WebLNX (pronounced "WebLinks"). They made the announcement at their 11th annual Vasont User's Group Meeting last week in Hershey, Pa.
The new tool enables users to access content from the web, and provides a way for authors and subject experts alike to access documents without having to open the CMS explicitly to do it. Further, the web interface is greatly simplified, hiding the underlying complexity of the full CMS product and making it simpler for users to undertake basic writing and editing tasks without worrying about the other tasks and functions they probably wouldn't be using anyway.
According to Richard Schiding, President of Vasont Systems, many clients were asking for a web-based client because reviewers and authors are often spread out across a wide variety of geographic locations.
"Clients that publish content requiring contributions from subject matter experts, such as medical or scientific publications, directories, or regulated material, will find Vasont WebLNX to be a valuable tool for coordinating the editorial process with many remote authors."
While working with XML offers many advantages, it's sometimes difficult for non-technical users to review documents in a simple manner. It usually requires work-arounds like editable .pdfs, which creates an extra step when reviewing and entering edits from a reviewer. This new tool provides a streamlined way to let reviewers edit documents directly in a simplified version of the Vasont editor.
