Vasont releases Vasont CMS 12.2

Vasont, most often known for documentation content management that enables you to write once and use many times in multiple languages, announced the latest version of its flagship product, Vasont Content Management System 12.2. This is an interim release that builds on existing features, rather than offering any major new functions.

Suzanne Mescan, VP of marketing at Vasont says, for example, "the Revisions feature is a branching capability that allows users to track and manage changes to modular content in relation to its original source content." She adds, "Revisions is based on our cloning feature, but now we have a new window that allows users to compare two current, similar pieces of content to identify the differences."

In addition, the new "Content Exception Report" is a more formal report that identifies potential publishing problems (i.e., if some modular content is still in draft status or is still involved in a workflow and is not yet approved for publishing). She says, "Our previous report did not contain as much information as this new report does."

The new features improve communication and help avoid publishing errors. "Content owners are notified when similar revisions are updated so they can choose which revision best fits their needs, and they can compare active content for the differences," Mescan says. Meanwhile, the Report helps users  avoid potential publishing issues before they encounter them.

One other update is the controlled vocabulary list, which helps customers to increase the consistency of content by allowing/restricting certain terminology within document set. For example, she says, "the company might use 'computer' instead of 'PC' and 'Mac' to genericize content for more reuse."

While this isn't a major revision by any means, these interim changes should help existing customers by improving the workflow, allowing for a more consistent document set and reducing publishing mistakes.
