Telerik, maker of the web CMS Sitefinity had a big week as it unveiled version 4.0 of it's ASP.NET-based web content management system software and announced the purchase of Mallsoft, an ecommerce integration vendor.

Let's start with the update. According to Telerik it includes updated workflow, increased ease of use and 100 ASP.NET AJAX and Silverlight UI controls from Telerik's own RadControls developer productivity tools collection, which are supposed to help developers as they create websites. And you control these widgets via an improved integrated Widget Template Editor.

What's more, with the purchase of Mallsoft, the web CMS will have tighter ecommerce integration and no longer require the use of third-party tools, something Martin Kirov, executive vice president of Sitefinity at Telerik is justifiably excited about. "With new frameworks supporting Mallsoft's ecommerce technologies, users have the ability to fully manage all aspects of their online business, from corporate websites to Intranets to online stores," Kirov said.

Mallsoft was already a Sitefinity partner so the purchase made even more sense. Sitefinity 4.0 is available immediately.
