EMC Atmos takes to the clouds
EMC Corporation announced a new cloud computing storage platform this week that could have a big impact on the way content is stored and retrieved inside the enterprise. The big differentiator for Atmos is not the fact that it uses the cloud--lots of storage vendors including Amazon have been doing that for some time--but it's object approach to storage. By defining content as objects with user-defined metadata, it could make it easier and faster to search and retrieve information across a geographically dispersed enterprise, while reducing storage costs related to infrastructure.
