Tools

Last year, before HP bought Autonomy for a hefty $10 billion, Michael Dell told The Telegraph that his company had a chance to buy it. He says they turned it down because it cost too much. I can't see Autonomy fitting into Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) no matter what the cost; It wouldn't be a good match. But it turned out HP (NYSE: HPQ) bought it instead, paying the premium. And, as we found out a few weeks ago, paying the price with an $8.8 billion write-down after HP accused Autonomy of accounting improprieties. For more information, see The Telegraph article.
