Sitecore teams with Telligent

Sitecore, a web content management vendor, announced a partnership this week with Telligent to integrate their community component called (appropriately enough) Telligent Community into the Sitecore platform.

Both products are based on the .NET platform, which contributed to the two companies joining forces, according to Darren Guarnaccia, Sitecore's VP Product Marketing. "From the technical perspective it’s a great match, since Sitecore and Telligent Community are based on Microsoft .NET technology and both offer flexible integration with extensive APIs and customization options," said Guarnaccia.  But it was more than a common technical infrastructure that brought these two companies together.

The Telligent Community piece enables organizations to build communities with components like blogs and wikis, photo sharing, groups and forums. The Sitecore piece provides the web site framework and content management components inherent in that. This enables customers to work seamlessly between the two products in a unified security framework allowing features like single sign-on.

Software like Telligent's provides a natural way to gather information internally and externally, but it needs to be integrated or at least linked to a CMS to help manage and access the data generated in the community sites. The fact that these two products are both based on .NET makes it an easier integration, and it's a partnership that makes a lot of sense for both organizations.

Interesting news - it really speaks to the evolution of the WCM & Social Software spaces into a new category that we at refer to as Social Publishing, which is the intersection of the CMS and social software markets. Social software capabilities are becoming a core component to every company's web strategy and we believe Social Publishing platforms will power this evolution.
