Customer engagement and mobile are two trends we are hearing a lot about lately and SDL hopes to take advantage of this by introducing a new mobile engagement solution for its SDL Tridion web content management system this week.

SDL has introduced a tool that enables customers to create mobile content and deliver it to a variety of different mobile devices from a single platform.

It's no secret that smart phones are becoming almost ubiquitous and as they do, companies are looking for ways to engage customers on mobile devices. Some companies are taking the app route, but for those that want to provide a meaningful mobile experience in the browser, tools like this one from SDL can help create a site that takes advantage of the fact you are delivering the content on a mobile device.

If you are forcing users to jump through hoops to see your content on mobile devices, chances are they are going to look elsewhere.

Jan Jaap Kolleman, CEO of SDL Web Content Management Solutions division said in a statement that the goal is to give customers access to their audience, whatever the channel. "Our goal is to help global companies develop personalized, engaging and lifelong relationships with their customers everywhere, anytime and via any channel."

SDL is trying to answer this by providing features such as automatic device detection that they claim will optimize and render the site based on the device and its specifications, mobile media trans-coding for video playback on mobile devices, and the ability to take advantage of specific phone functionality such as GPS and camera.
