Recommind released the newest version of the Decisiv search tool this week with API hooks that enable organizations to include documents stored in cloud storage services in the results.

As more companies move to the cloud using services such as Google Docs, it becomes increasingly important to be able to connect to these documents and access them in search results. If your company can't, and it's relying more heavily on cloud services, it's a big hole in the results.

According to a statement released by the company, the new tool uses connectors to include search results from services such as Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Docs, Dropbox and Box.net. 

Derek Schueren, GM, Information Access & Governance at Recommind said in a statement that cloud storage poses challenges for companies and his product is an attempt to address that "they can adopt cloud-based services with confidence, knowing that with Decisiv Search they can find relevant information outside the firewall as easily and accurately as they can behind it, from one powerful, unified search application," he said.

Nick Patience from The 451 Group explained that cloud storage has changed the way companies need to manage risk. "They can't assume that documents created by employees will remain available on the corporate server. More and more people are storing vital information in the cloud, where colleagues, and even IT staff, may not realize it exists. Enterprises need to adapt to this new state of affairs, and so need an effective way to bring critical information to light whether it's stored in the cloud or on premise," he said.

Among the other features in the latest version of Decisiv are an improved document viewer that enables users to view Word documents with live links.
