Quark and Microsoft team up on multi-channel publishing solution
This week at the IFRA Expo in Vienna, Austria where the newspaper industry executives from around the world gather to see the latest in publishing technology, Quark and Microsoft announced a new multichannel publishing suite incorporating Quark and Microsoft components. According to the Quark press release, "The solution combines editorial collaboration and dynamic publishing to streamline editorial workflows and enable single-source multi-channel publishing."
On the Microsoft side, it includes Microsoft Office SharePoint Server and the Microsoft Unified Communications platform, which includes Office Communications Server, Exchange Server, Office Communicator, and Office Outlook.
Quark contributes the Quark Dynamic Publishing Solution (Quark DPS) and the Quark XML Authoring tool.
Bill Trippe, Vice President and Lead Analyst of Content Strategies at Gilbane Group says this solution is a good combination of technologies, particularly because it enables publishers to leverage the technology investments they've already made to improve their workflows and accelerate the delivery of their content. "The ubiquity of Microsoft SharePoint and Office communications technology matched with Quark’s expertise in multi-channel publishing makes this a very practical integration."
What Trippe means is that companies can take advantage of modern multi-channel publishing techniques using back-end Microsoft tools they probably already have in place, while using Quark's more advanced publishing tools to design and deliver the finished product in whatever file format they require. It's an intriguing option for companies that might already be a Microsoft shop and are looking for advanced publishing delivery methods like those offered by Quark.
