Q-Sensei aims to provide complete view of enterprise data

Q-Sensei, an enterprise search vendor, released a new version this week, they claim will give an enterprise a complete picture of its data, no matter where it lives, even going so far as to provide business intelligence and analytics information.

According to a statement released by the company, "Q-Sensei's unique search capability gives business users a secure 360° view of all relevant data for business analytics, statistical analyses, as well as media and market trend tracking."

But Mike Davis, an analyst at Ovum who has been briefed on the product saw it more as an enhanced enterprise search offering. Ovum said that Q-Sensei's was offering what he called multi-linear search--along with all the other 'standard' search capabilities.

But he sees some other key differences from standard offerings too: "...because these have been written with the experience of the previous generations of search engine, the code is cleaner and lighter and the performance is better. Additionally Q-Sensei has a useful modular approach and the ability to provide automated classification, a feature often provided by third-party products for more established search engines," Davis said.

The company seems to have concentrated more on the administrative back end, providing ways to index and customize the search experience and letting customers or integrators deal with the interface. Davis points out that this is a similar approach that Autonomy takes.

In the screen shot below, you can see the Q-Sensei search results broken down by data facets on the left side of the screen, which lets the user drill down to the information they need quickly.
