Last week, Perceptive Software announced IntelliCapture, a new scanning and capture solution that combines the document management capabilities of Perceptive with the data capture and search features in partner Brainware. 

The product enables customers to capture scanned content in the normal fashion, while applying Brainware technology to make the process more intelligent. It gives users a soup-to-nuts system in which they can capture scanned content, then apply a workflow and eventually archive it or post to other enterprise systems such as SAP.

According to Perceptive, Brainware offers a self-learning data extraction technology that doesn't require any type of taxonomy or template building beforehand. If it works as described, it sounds like very clever technology. 

Brainware CEO Carl Mergele says the combined solution offers a high level of process automation for customers. "The core value of intelligent data capture has always come from its ability to infuse large businesses with the greatest possible operational efficiency." 

If this solution delivers, it could achieve Mergele's vision.
