OpenText releases version 10 of web content management software

OpenText released a new version of its web content management suite this week, but the recent purchase of Vignette (which itself announced a new version of the Vignette content management suite just last week) raises questions about how Vignette will be incorporated into the OpenText family once the purchase is complete.

For the current version, the OpenText press release boasts increased integration with its enterprise system, and cites a recently released Forrester report by Stephen Powers and Tim Walters called "Forrester Wave™: Web Content Management For External Sites," which says this integration as a key strength.

"...Open Text's strength lies in its ability to leverage integrations with other ECM offerings (records management, document output for customer communications management, and digital asset management)..."

It raises the obvious question, though, about how Vignette will be integrated when the purchase is complete, and if they will be able to incorporate Vignette smoothly into the Open Text family, even while they are highlighting the integration of the existing web property with the OpenText family. Given OpenText's history of buying pieces and incorporating them into the fold, you probably have to give them the benefit of the doubt here, but it certainly is interesting timing when the new parent releases its own product just a week after the adopted child.
