Open Text takes ECM mobile

At the CTIA conference this week, Open Text introduced a new mobile product for the BlackBerry called Open Text Everywhere. The product makes the entire Open Text ECM Suite available on smart phones.

As you can see from the video we are sharing at the bottom of this post, this is a slick implementation that makes it easy to access content from the Open Text content repository like PDFs and spreadsheets and view them on your phone. What's more you can fill in forms like expense reports on the fly. This should be very helpful for users on the road, giving them easy and always-on access to content.

Analyst Tony White, who is Founder of Ars Logica, believes this is a big step for Open Text. "This is a really good move for Open Text because, to my knowledge, it's the first application of its type to really make this significant collection of the features, that the targeted demographic will use, available on a BlackBerry."

While this is initially aimed at the BlackBerry users, undoubtedly because they are popular business phones, Open Text has plans to expand to other phones over the coming year and add functionality including integration with partner SAP. Next year they hope to expand coverage to niche areas like email compliance management and website content management, all from a phone.
