Open Text announces full support for SharePoint 2010

Open Text announced last week that in conjunction with the release of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) SharePoint 2010, it would provide full support for SharePoint 2010 customers across the Open Text platform. As we wrote last week regarding a similar announcement from EMC in "EMC walks the line with SharePoint support", the approach is to provide more comprehensive content management and repository management functions over and above the offerings in the SharePoint product.

Like other large ECM vendors, Open Text has to tread carefully with Microsoft. It's hard to ignore SharePoint because of the sheer numbers, so they provide services to fill in some known gaps in SharePoint. The solution (much like EMC's) provides a way for users to access and use SharePoint as a front end, but use Open Text repository services on the back end. Open Text has been partnering with Microsoft for more than five years and they are a certified Microsoft Gold Partner.

Among the products Open Text offers SharePoint customers are integrated records management, content lifecycle management, eDiscovery and more. Although Microsoft has increased its coverage in these areas in SharePoint 2010, it still counts on partners like Open Text and EMC to provide more comprehensive enterprise-class solutions for specific functionality.
