Open Text and SAP expand relationship to DAM
Open Text and SAP have had a cozy relationship for some time, so much so that some have suggested that SAP might as well just purchase them and be done with it. This week, they didn't go that far, but they did expand their successful partnership to include Open Text's digital asset management product.
It's no secret that companies out there are collecting more and more digital content and they need tools to manage these assets effectively and efficiently. To that end, SAP will begin selling Open Text's DAM product under the name, "SAP Digital Asset Management application by Open Text."
There are a couple of interesting aspects to this agreement. First of all, they are continuing to expand their relationship. At some point, you have to wonder if they will just go all the way and combine the two companies. Apparently, SAP isn't really fond of mergers and acquisitions, but this one would certainly make a lot of sense for both parties.
Secondly, SAP isn't just taking the step of selling Open Text's products. It's actually working to integrate Open Text's technology into existing SAP products. This is significant. Some companies have trouble doing this after a merger. SAP and Open Text appear to be able to work together and bring their products under a single cohesive system, even while operating as separate organizations.
Whether they end up marrying at some point, the relationship appears to be solid, and it's hard to argue with success.
