Nuxeo takes its DAM to the cloud

Nuxeo launched the newest version of its DAM last week. Version 1.1 includes a new cloud version, giving customers the option of hosting the solution themselves or letting Nuxeo do it. In addition, Nuxeo has also enhanced the DAM offering with new features based on customer feedback.

Nuxeo is positioning the new cloud offering for small to medium sized businesses looking for a digital asset management solution without all of the headaches and expenses associated with installing it in house

Eric Barroca, CEO at Nuxeo sees this as an ideal solution for those companies looking to take advantage of DAM technology without making a huge hardware investment. "It eliminates heavy investments in IT or hardware, while still providing all the ingestion, categorization, management and collaboration tools that today's businesses and marketing departments require to protect their media content investment."

Meanwhile, Nuxeo has updated the DAM with many new features in release 1.1 including automatic thumbnail video segmentation, which generates thumbnail video chapters automatically during ingestion. This should make it easier to view video without having to watch the entire thing to find the part you are looking for. The question is whether the automatic segmentation makes sense and that will probably vary by video.

The DAM has of course been designed to integrate with Nuxeo's document management component, providing a way to access documents or digital files stored in either application without having to switch applications.

The new services are available now. Cloud customers can try it for free for a limited time without committing to a full subscription.
