Nuxeo releases DM 5.3 with open social support

Nuxeo announced last week, the latest version of its open source content management system. The new version boasts integration with SharePoint along with support for Google Open Social widgets. The product continues to allow you to use a hosted version on Nuxeo's servers or a local version on your own servers.

Nuxeo CEO Eric Barroca (whom we interviewed "One on One"), says this release is a logical extension of where they have been taking the product. "Our product roadmap is being driven by our commitment to standards, interoperability, better integration to the Microsoft suite and integration of the social business infrastructure."

The SharePoint integration enables SharePoint users to access Microsoft content from within the Nuxeo content repository, then edit the content using Nuxeo's authentication capabilities (making sure only authorized employees can change the document) and save it and return it updated to the repository when you are finished editing. This is almost seamless integration and provides a way (much like EMC's announcement today) to manage SharePoint content from within Nuxeo's content repository.

In addition, the Open Social access, provides a way for users to access and use Open Social widgets along side Nuxeo's. You can customize your social dashboard and add whichever widgets make sense for your own personal workflow. You are free to move and customize them any way you like giving Nuxeo users access to a much wider range of widgets.

Nuxeo introduced a new cloud component in 5.2 and this enables a company to run Nuxeo in a hosted mode, but also to provide a way to replicate the data on the Nuxeo servers and bring it in-house for backup purposes or for when you're ready to work with it on your own servers. Cheryl McKinnon, CMO at Nuxeo says that this provides a way for companies to build an application online, and when they are ready, take it in-house. "The day you want to take it in house, you don't have to reinvent the wheel, just replicate it to on premise."

Nuxeo is continuing to build its product and providing enterprise customers with a flexible solution that gives them a variety of implementation approaches in an open-source package.
