Nuxeo extends Lotus Notes with metaLogic partnership

In response to the upcoming end-of-life of Lotus Domino Document Manager, Nuxeo has announced at Lotusphere an agreement with metaLogic Consulting Inc. to offer Lotus Notes integration and migration services to Nuxeo's open-source ECM platform.

The software is expected to be available in about six weeks, said Bruce Grant, president of metaLogic, which has already been a Nuxeo partner.

IBM said a year ago that it would stop selling the software last May, and that it would stop supporting it by the end of September, 2012. "Most companies don't want to abandon solutions where they've invested a lot of money and time and effort," Grant said. The agreement will let users either migrate content out of Lotus Notes, use Nuxeo as a backend repository, or integrate Nuxeo content into composite Lotus Notes applications, he said.

In some ways, Nuxeo competes with Alfresco, which recently made its own Lotusphere announcement. "We look at more of an ECM platform, while Alfresco focuses more on the end user," said Cheryl McKinnon, Nuxeo's chief marketing officer. Grant added that Nuxeo has a single code stream, while Alfresco has two, plus Nuxeo uses the more advantageous LGPL license compared with Alfresco's GPL license, he said.
