Nuxeo and Hippo forge open source content management partnership
Two open source content management vendors, Nuxeo and Hippo have forged a partnership. While both are open source, java-based content management systems, Nuxeo concentrates on enterprise content management while Hippo is a web content management tool.
What they've done is build a CMIS connector to move data between the two systems. This will effectively enable companies with a Hippo website to integrate Nuxeo enterprise content, whether from its Nuxeo Content Management tool or the Nuxeo Digital Asset Management tool.
In a statement, Nuxeo described it this way: " With this new connector, internal business content can be communicated via a website or portal without taking it out of its managed lifecycle. This eliminates the need to duplicate the information, and maintains the content history, validation workflow, versioning, and associated metadata."
Nuxeo CEO Eric Barroca explained that WCM and ECM are sometimes misunderstood acronyms but they serve very different purposes, even if they can use shared content. "Nuxeo's Enterprise Content Management solutions address content-centric business processes that are internal to an organization. Web Content Management communicates information online, to both internal and external audiences," he said.
The project is intriguing on a number of levels including a partnership between two open source companies, which is taking advantage of the OASIS CMIS standard.
