Nuance brings scanning to the cloud
Nuance introduced its latest version of its PaperPort scanning product, version 14, this week with a new cloud service and mobile applications that give users access to documents from virtually anywhere. It's aimed more at a consumer market than the enterprise, but it's applicable to anyone who wants to access documents quickly.
The new PaperPort Anywhere service is a cloud service that lets users scan important documents into PDFs using PaperPort, and then access them from anywhere. The new version includes access to free iPhone, iPad and Android applications, allowing documents to be opened on a mobile device at any time.
What's more, Nuance encrypts the documents for enhanced security and includes access to the Nuance Cloud Connector service, which provides access to files stored on other cloud services such as Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Live SkyDrive, Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) Docs and Box.net.
The new service is available in two pricing tiers: 50 GB of storage for $24.99 per month with a 2 GB file size limit or 10 GB for $9.99 per month with a 1 GB file size limit.
Nuance's combination of offline scanning, PDFs, document management and cloud services is a comprehensive offering, although for a product aimed at consumers, some might find the pricing a bit steep.
