New Sitecore release to leverage the cloud

Sitecore announced this week that the next version of its content management system, CMS 6.3, will support the cloud. It also said it will partner with three major cloud providers: Amazon, Rackspace and Microsoft Azure.

The organization is particularly enthusiastic about its support for Azure--the new version was announced at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in Washington, D.C.--because it offers database capabilities that are more advanced than either of its competitors, said Darren Guarnaccia, vice president of product marketing for the Mill Valley, Calif., company. In addition, Azure offers two North American, two European and two AsiaPac sites on which organizations can place information, he said.

Placing data in multiple locations in the cloud results in more consistent response time to worldwide users, the company said. It also improves scalability because more resources can be added to the cloud if necessary. Other new features in Sitecore CMS 6.3 include load distribution, redundancy and scalability, to take advantage of the cloud.

Sitecore CMS 6.3 will be available next week, but Microsoft Azure support is in preview and will not be available until the end of the quarter, Guarnaccia said. Pricing typically starts at $65,000 and scales up from there, he said.
