MetaVis introduces Office365 backup and archiving tool
MetaVis announced a new tool this week that enables SharePoint or Office365 customers to create a local back-up of their content. This could be especially useful to Office365 users who might worry about not having control over the online content. The new product is called SavePoint.
Kathleen Reidy, Senior Analyst at 451 Research says providing companies a way to backup locally could be an important requirement. "Most organizations need the ability to backup and access archived content with minimal business interruption--and this includes content that lives in the cloud--though this is an emerging use case," she said.
Reidy adds that this type of backup provides a compelling capability. "The ability to have a local copy of SharePoint data from Office365 to ensure uninterrupted access and enable recovery beyond Microsoft's retention periods could fill an interesting gap in the market," she said.
In fact, the product, which works like Windows Restore points, lets you backup the SavePoints to local or cloud storage, as your company requires.
Companies could be intrigued by the ability to backup and restore SharePoint data, and for governance purposes to have a local backup of the data stored in the cloud.
The service starts at $495 per year.
