MetaVis, a company that creates Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) SharePoint migration tools, introduced a new product last week to help companies migrate Google Docs into SharePoint. Getting cloud content into repositories like SharePoint can be a challenge for organizations and this product is meant to make that an easier process.

Much like MetaVis's other products and services, IT administrators set up a migration to either the on-premise version of SharePoint or to Office 365, the cloud version of SharePoint. The key here is that it preserves all of the valuable metadata in the transfer process including version history and ownership, while allowing the administrator to map the Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) taxonomy to SharePoint. Preserving metadata is particularly important in highly regulated environments.

While it's possible to save Google Docs in other formats including Microsoft Office formats, the key difference with the MetaVis product is that it provides a way to do it in batches and even leave comments intact.

Steve Pogrebivsky, MetaVis CEO and Co-founder sees this ability to move documents from the cloud as increasingly important. "The cloud is quickly becoming the content platform for business and companies need an effective way to move information into or out of one cloud platform to another," he said.
