M-Files releases mobile app with e-signature capability

Can add electronic signature as part of mobile workflow

M-Files announced a new mobile version of their content management product this week to give M-Files customers access to their content on the go on a variety of supported devices.

M-Files differentiates itself from the pack by taking advantage of metadata to help users find files based on what they are, rather than where they are stored, so M-Files doesn't care if you stored it in the cloud or on-premise; it will find it based on the file type.

That means users can search for things like contracts or presentations, and the app can find them based on the type without worrying about where they might be stored.

In addition, the new mobile app allows e-signatures so users can sign documents that require it as part of a workflow.

Mika Javanainen, senior director of product management at M-Files, says mobile is obviously a huge trend in the ECM market and this product is aimed at providing traditional ECM capabilities in a mobile context.

"We optimized the M-Files mobile experience to focus on our customers' most relevant and common use cases, such as document retrieval and workflow approval," Javanainen said in a statement.

He added that they are particularly focused on highly-regulated industries, such as pharmaceutical and life sciences, where fulfilling FDA compliance requirements is still a necessity, even when employees are out of the office.

The app is available in the Apple App Store, Google Play and the Windows store. It's free for M-Files customers.
