Lucid Imagination celebrates one year anniversary

Lucid Imagination, the company that put the weight of a commercial organization behind the open source search tools Apache Solr and Apache Lucene is celebrating its first anniversary this week.

As I wrote at the time of the launch last year, Lucid Imagination broke new ground by creating a consulting company based on these open source packages:

"This is significant because although Lucene has been out for years, it has surprisingly never had a commercial venture backing it for customization and support services."

Since its debut last year, the company has found a waiting market and signed up over 50 companies including some impressive ones such as AT&T, Nike, Sears, Ford, Verizon, The Guardian, Elsevier, The Motley Fool, Cisco, Macy's and Zappos.

In fact, Zappos senior director of engineering, Brent Cromley, said working with Lucid Imagination has helped smooth the process of implementing Lucene/Solr search at his company. "By working with Lucid Imagination, we've been able to ensure that our Lucene/Solr based-search delivers the speed, reliability and ease of use we need to keep our customers delighted--and coming back to find more."

Lucid Imagination was a company at the right place at the right time. As the popularity of the open source search engine increases, more organizations are going to be looking for help implementing and turning the open source solution for their organization.
