Liferay open-source portal releases Portal 6, Enterprise Edition

Liferay, an open source portal framework, released Liferay Portal 6 Enterprise Edition. The new package is loaded and includes social collaboration functionality, along with built-in web content management and tools to help developers create customized applications.

Liferay built in the social tools in this version to help customers better develop collaboration, whether internally among departments or externally with customers. Social tools include blogs and wikis, Open Social Google Gadgets, activity stream, chat and more. The product also includes APIs to connect to other web content management systems in place in an organization.

The web content management component includes integration with Microsoft Office, localization tools in over 30 languages and user-defined work flows. 

The product also boasts built-in analytics, among a host of other features. Paul Hinz, Chief Marketing Officer at Liferay, believes his company has put together the total package. "Liferay 6EE meets the industry's demand for a complete web content management system, combined with social collaboration and portal functionality," he said in a press release.

The product is available now and there is free 30-day trial.
