LexisNexis launches Lexis for Microsoft Office

Last week, LexisNexis launched Lexis for Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFTOffice, a tool that enables legal professionals to access and incorporate LexisNexis legal citation data without leaving the Office document.

George Hampton, a law firm partner who served as one of the beta testers for Lexis for Microsoft Office says the ability to work directly in Office is a real time-saver. "In the past, you'd have to write the citations on a piece of paper and then visit Lexis.com to look each one up, one at a time. Now, you don't have to manually input citations, Lexis for Microsoft Office enables you to be self sufficient," he says.

It works seamlessly with Microsoft Office, Outlook or even SharePoint Server providing a way for LexisNexis subscribers to access legal data on the fly. Bob Romeo, SVP, Research and Litigation Solutions at LexisNexis says the service provides a new way to make use of LexisNexis content. "Lexis for Microsoft Office continues this tradition by introducing a new era of improved collaboration, productivity and access to information for legal professionals and others--freeing them to focus on strategy, client service and confidently managing legal matters," he says.

The new tool lets Office users search for and view LexisNexis content in a window that sits next to the open document providing a quick way to transfer data between the two. What's more, a new feature scans each document or email for keywords, then provides hyperlinks to relevant LexisNexis data. If a word doesn't get highlighted, the user can simply highlight it and search Lexis/Nexis for any content related to the selected word.

The new tool requires a current Lexis/Nexis subscription and works with Office 2007 and Office 2010.
