Kofax introduced a product last week called Kofax DotImage Enterprise Edition that enables companies to build scanning functionality into externally-facing portals.

The product lets companies set up scanning-enabled workflows directly from the company website, helping to eliminate paper from the process entirely. For instance, if you are applying for a mortgage and you need to send in documentation to accompany the application, with scanning enabled, it allows people with scanning capability to scan the required documents, rather than mailing them.

This saves time for the applicant and the bank because it eliminates the step of mailing the papers, opening them and scanning them in a manual process.

Martyn Christian, chief marketing officer at Kofax says companies using this functionality can derive several benefits. "By extending our capture platform directly to the user, businesses can better leverage capture enabled BPM solutions that automate critical business processes throughout the enterprise and deliver a faster return on investment," he said.

Any time you can save steps, it's clearly going to save money, so depending on how easy this is to implement, it appears to be a very useful products for companies looking to save time for their customers and for themselves.
