Iomega announced two new boxes that provide a way to store your own content and access streaming content from the Internet. As streaming content increasingly morphs from the Internet to your television, more companies are trying to get in on the action including Roku, Apple TV and Google TV.

Iomega, which is an EMC company, is offering a unique approach. Unlike Roku and Apple TV, which simply provide a bridge to streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu Plus, Iomega is offering local storage in 1TB and 2TB models. This would allow you to store your music, video and pictures and access streaming services from a central hub. Iomega is also offering a straight streaming box without the storage component.

Boxee gives Iomega customers access to content from the major networks such as CBS, NBC, Comedy Central, HGTV, Cartoon Network and more. What's more, unlike Netflix and Hulu Plus which have a monthly fee, the Boxee service requires no additional fee to access this content (a big plus). Although, it's not clear if it's commercial free (although neither is Hulu Plus).

In addition, you can even access your social networks including Facebook, Twitter and Google Buzz from the TV.

Iomega TV with Boxee and no internal storage is $229.99, Iomega TV with Boxee and 1TB Storage is $299.99, and Iomega TV with Boxee and 2TB Storage is $349.99. It's worth noting that Roku starts at $69.99 and Apple TV is $99.
