HP releases first products with Autonomy technology
HP announced this week its first products using Autonomy technology. You may recall that HP invested a hefty $10 billion to buy Autonomy last summer. These products are the first ones to result from that deal.
The first product, Autonomy IDOL combines Autonomy search and indexing technology with HP IDOL software to help find structured and unstructured information in real time (or so they say).
The platform also includes Vertica, HP's analytics platform giving users a content management, search and analytics solution that could be a powerful combination of tools for organizations looking to process and find lots of data and content across a large enterprise.
Mike Lynch, executive vice president for Information Management at HP says most organizations have separated structured and unstructured data with the former being in databases and the latter using simple keyword matching to find information.
He says, "IDOL 10 brings these two worlds together allowing organizations to automatically process, understand, and act on 100 percent of their data, in real-time. The results will be dramatic, as businesses can develop entirely new applications that explore the richness and color of Human Information that live in unstructured, semi-structured, and structured forms."
As a platform, it appears that HP envisions companies building their own search applications on top of it to meet the unique needs of each individual organization.
For companies looking for an out-of-the-box solution, they have also developed a series of appliances using Autonomy technology that includes eDiscovery, enterprise search and archiving solutions.
