HiSoftware releases SharePoint 2010 security and compliance solutions

HiSoftware introduced several products this week to help companies using SharePoint 2010 with enhanced security and compliance issues, an area that many enterprise record-keepers and governance professionals have found lacking in SharePoint out of the box.

As the statement released by HiSoftware pointed out, AIIM's 2011 State of ECM report found that 70 percent of the largest organizations responding reported using SharePoint, yet only 20 percent of respondents expressed confidence when storing sensitive information in SharePoint. That's a huge gap between use and governance, one that HiSoftware hopes to fill.

HiSoftware CEO Kurt Mueffelmann sees this gap as a big problem for organizations, especially as SharePoint adoption grows. "As SharePoint grows, the type and composition of data organizations want to store and share expands as well, with big implications for information governance and user adoption," he said.

HiSoftware's solutions attempt to solve these issues by providing SharePoint users with a sophisticated rules engine that can among other things "continuously audit data and documents for compliance requirements such as privacy, information security, accessibility, site quality and brand integrity."

After HiSoftware identifies the type of information, it can take an action on it based on your rules.

The new solutions will be available in mid-December.
