Hippo launches Hippo CMS version 7

Open source CMS vendor, Hippo, a company founded in the Netherlands, announced this week it was releasing version 7 of its content management system. Hippo's strength is in indexing large quantities of documents across disparate sources. Arje Cahn, CTO of Hippo, says people have become flooded by content and it's becoming more and more difficult to find the right documents.

He says that Hippo 7 has been designed with open source components including Apache Lucene for search, Apache Jackrabbit as a content repository and Apache Wicket--which is new in this version and gives user an AJAX interface with drag drop and auto-save functionality. The product actually has a lot of behaviors of a search tool by indexing large quantities of documents across multiple sources and providing different ways to find content and then different ways to use the content in many forms.

"Hippo CMS 7.0 is designed to help organizations that need to manage a lot of data. It provides them with an intuitive, flexible and enterprise-class content management system that will meet the unique content management needs of their business, with no data lock-in or excessive costs. The new product was designed with ease of implementation and extensibility in mind,” Cahn said.
