Flipboard finally comes to iPhone

Flipboard finally released an iPhone app this week after being an iPad-only app since its inception. The problem was always finding a way to translate the flipping action and visually appealing interface that works so well on the larger iPad screen to the smaller iPhone.

Well, Flipboard has done a remarkable job and the wait was worth it. Instead of flipping right to left as with the iPad app, it flips up and down and it works well. It's still just as fun to flip through different feeds from major magazines or from your social networks including Facebook and Twitter.

What's great about this app is that you can see your Twitter and Facebook feeds in a very visually appealing way and still share content across networks or access content in a browser when needed. It's particularly enjoyable to flip through photos using a simple flick of the finger.

Flipboard CEO Mike McCue said the iPhone app was designed with speed in mind. "With the iPhone we redesigned Flipboard for those times during the day when you've only got a few minutes to check in, when people want to find the things they care about even faster," he said.

He added that people have been clamoring for an iPhone version of the popular iPad app and it's been the number one request they've heard from users. In order to allow users to access the same information across devices, Flipboard recently introduced the idea of an account. When you sign in you can maintain a single Flipboard instance across multiple devices.

The iPhone app is available now in the iPhone App Store.
