FatWire introduces two new social server products

This week FatWire introduced two new server products designed to enhance the social side of a company's website. The first is FatWire Community Server, which enables organizations to add social features to a site such a community ratings and then reuse that content as needed across the entire web property. The second is FatWire Gadget server, which enables visitors to customize their visiting experience by creating a dashboard of common gadgets.

The latter is based on Google's Open Social Gadget platform and lets you plug in a variety of small programs that your users can use for their convenience while visiting your website. You can create your own gadgets or make use of the extensive Open Social Gadget ecosystem. What's more, you could even create a branded gadget for use on other websites that are based on Open Social.

The new Social Server gives customers the ability to add social services to a website such as blogs, ratings and reviews, then repurpose user-generated content across the site based on the needs of the visitor. Much like Amazon as you post information about a product, you could include user ratings and reviews on the page with product information. You can also moderate and review content to make sure it adheres to your corporate standards.

Kathleen Reidy, an analyst from the 451 Group, who covers this social software says, "Social software capabilities have become critical aspects of interactive marketing strategies." She adds, "Many organizations are looking for these capabilities as part of broader web suites so they can easily use the tools to enrich the web experience, and so they can manage social content to enterprise standards."

These two products can enhance the marketing and outreach efforts of marketing departments looking to make the sites more social while enhancing visitor the experience.
