eZ Systems turns 10

Open source content management vendor eZ Systems (we interviewed eZ CEO Bard Farstad for our One on One interviews) turns 10 this year and they are celebrating by holding their annual conference in Paris for the first time. All previous conferences were held in the company's home country, Norway. The user conference, which runs June 25 and 26, will also have an award ceremony at least partially geared toward the 10-year anniversary, but which will also recognize members of the developer community who have contributed to the success of the company over the last year.

Although eZ is still booking speakers, as of this writing, they had confirmed James Hewes, Head of International Development at BBC Magazines, and Angela Broer, Director of Business & Strategy at Gruner + Jahr New Media Ventures. The conference will also feature workshops and eZ Systems employees will be there to discuss technical or business issues around eZ products.

Ten years is an impressive milestone for an open source vendor and it shows that a company built around the open source model cannot only survive, but thrive in the competitive content management marketplace. The company has proven that using a community of committed developers and an open-source business mode can be a viable approach to business and for that they should be commended.
