Evernote, the note-keeping database that lives on your desktop, the web and your smartphone, and syncs across all of them automatically in the cloud, announced last week that version 4.0, was available for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

Among the highlights is a new view they call Snippet View, which is easier to read than previous versions of the Evernote iPhone app and provide you with as much information as possible within the iPhone or iPod Touch footprint.

They have also simplified note creation, enabling you to attach multiple files from a single note and to choose multiple pictures from the Camera roll. What's more, the new split-screen design really makes it simple to create a note and add multiple types of content to it including up to 90 minutes of audio.

This has really transformed the iPhone app into a tool you can use for a variety of purposes, whether it's tracking different items while shopping or keeping track of different stops on a trip. I use it mostly for tracking websites for my various writing jobs, but this approach makes tracking all kinds of content really simple and you can even leave a voice note so you won't forget important details later.

I downloaded it to my iPhone and I found it's easier to find and read notes, and it processes notes from the Cloud and delivers them to the iPhone app much faster than the previous version. It's available immediately for download from the Apple App Store.
