DotNetNuke adds Microsoft WebMatrix support
DotNetNuke (DNN), makers of the open source web content management system based on Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) .NET, announced recently that it was adding support for Microsoft's WebMatrix and Razor in an attempt to attract developers at both ends of the development experience spectrum. WebMatrix is designed to help less experienced developers, while Razor covers the more experienced ones.
You may recall that last week we wrote about the introduction of WebMatrix and questioned the utility for end users. Shaun Walker, who is co-founder and CTO for DNN thinks it's plenty useful. "When you create a new website through WebMatrix, the development tool provides a simple mechanism to download the latest version of the DotNetNuke software directly from the Microsoft Web Application Gallery," Walker explained.
He adds, "It will determine the pre-requisites for running the application on your local machine and will automatically manage the process of downloading and installing additional components as needed to ensure your environment is configured optimally. Once the DotNetNuke application is installed you can immediately launch the website from within WebMatrix where you also have the ability to take advantage some of its advanced tools such as the file manager and code editor, performance profiler, and SEO analyzer. You can even deploy your website directly from WebMatrix to a Windows hosting provider using the simple website deployment feature."
Among the new features in version 5.6.1, in addition to WebMatrix support, is a new configuration manager that allow IT or technical administrators to control "run-time operations of DotNetNuke." They have also created solutions packages aimed at various enterprise users to help ease deployment.
There are five solutions packages including: Pro Quick Start for first-time DotNetNuke users; Pro Upgrade or Pro Elite for current DotNetNuke users; or, Enterprise Quick Start or Enterprise Elite for advanced users. These packages provide various levels of training, depending on the version along with a subscription.
