DotNetNuke 5.3 includes social networking
DotNetNuke released its latest version of its open-source CMS based on Microsoft .Net last week. They divide the releases into their Professional and Elite editions and open source core versions of the same tools.
The open-source core updates include several new features including a tool for building site taxonomies, social networking tools and messaging functionality.
The Professional and Elite editions include new a workflow approval feature, a ribbon control replaces a menu bar (as we've seen in Microsoft Office since Office 2007) and a new tool called 'My Editable Pages,' which provides links to all the pages a particular user has access to for writing and editing purposes.
The social networking tools sound fairly rudimentary providing a way for users to create user profiles and upload photos, but the taxonomy tool sounds like it could be very useful to site administrators looking to organize the site using a set of acceptable terms.
These new features, depending on how well they have been implemented should provide site administrators with some key tools that have been missing from previous versions of the software, providing greater ease of use and stronger site management.
