Day releases CRX 2.1 with CMIS support

Day Software released CRX 2.1 today, the latest version of its development platform, which is built on open source components Apache Jackrabbit, Felix and Sling projects. What's more it supports open standards including the recently approved JSR-283 (the latest Java Content Repository) and the upcoming CMIS Standard, which proponents are predicting will be approved shortly. Day also helped launch the Apache Chemistry project last year, a vendor-neutral implementation of CMIS, which they hope will help promote development around the new standard.

Kevin Cochrane, Day's chief marketing officer, says this adherence to open standards is important because it lets developers concentrate on creating applications instead of making the tools work for them. "[Open standards] enable them to focus on building the best possible customer experience rather than learning byzantine, proprietary APIs. And for customers, that only means more efforts focused on value to them, rather than internal IT cost factors," he said.

Using CMIS support, Day has also developed a SharePoint connector for use with CRX 2.1. Cochrane says this is important, due to the popularity of SharePoint and the increasing need to access content in SharePoint repositories. "SharePoint is increasingly the 'shared file share' replacement for departments collaborating on core business docs that need to be externalized in a targeted multi-channel customer experience. Supporting SharePoint through CMIS out of the box is a must for any ECM or WCM vendor."

Day CRX 2.1 also supports virtualization and rapid content application development.
