CrownPeak introduces url shortening service

CrownPeak introduced a new URL shortening service this week. These services, such as TinyURL and bit.ly, provide a way to shorten long URLs, which can be particularly useful in blog posts, emails and social networking sites like Twitter. By including a feature in their web content management system, it enables marketers to track the shortened URLs with built-in CrownPeak analytics tools.

Rob Rose, VP of marketing and strategy at CrownPeak, says that having the service in the content management system makes it more convenient for users. "Using CPeak.US, the client can assign the shortened URL while the document is still going through workflow and while still in the CMS. And once they publish it out, it is already live at that URL. So, they can then go through CrownPeak CMS and Tweet it out, or send it through our included API's into LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Ping.FM," he says.

Rose says it also enables marketers to archive all of the links associated with a particular document. "Right now, using TweetDeck, you have no way of seeing all the links, associated with the documents that you've created," he says. "This is important in an internal marketing organization. They'd like to be able to track and see all their press releases, or documents that they've assigned shortened URLs and see those links in one interface."

While URL-shortening technology isn't earth shattering by any means, it does provide a convenient service for marketers looking to tightly control all of the ways they distribute their content inside the content management system.
