Coveo introduces mobile search tools
Coveo unveiled new search tools this week for mobile devices. Initially it's available on the Blackberry OS 6.0, but there are Beta versions for the iPhone, iPad and Android devices.
Coveo says the new mobile tools provide much of the same functionality as the enterprise versions in a mobile package. This includes Coveo features such as document quick view and guided navigation. The new mobile tools are aimed at knowledge workers who spend a lot of time out of the office, such as field service personnel and outside sales.
The idea is to provide access to Coveo search data inside the enterprise wherever you are. It even goes so far as accessing emails from an off-line PC, a powerful capability for a busy employee who spends a lot of time away from the office, but still needs access to enterprise information on the road.
Michael Maoz, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner Research, believes giving mobile workers the ability to access information from wherever they are is growing increasingly important. "Devices such as all forms of Tablets and smart phones will continue to change the dynamics of customer support and field service as organizations look for innovative ways to better serve and understand their customers. Tablets and mobile devices are showing strong business benefits to field technicians," he said.
Maoz adds, "This comes from areas such as real-time information on parts and plans, customer cases, and upsell opportunities. It is critical for enterprises to efficiently equip these mobile workers with a 360-degree view of the customer, in particular as businesses focus on sustainability, lower costs, and improved customer satisfaction. With 20 million mobile field service workers worldwide, we are already beginning to see the measurable benefits."
