CoreMedia announced today the release of CoreMedia 6, a version they hope will make it easier for end users to enter content and manage social media information from one central interface, while providing visitors with a more personalized experience based on device and other factors.

The key components of the new version are CoreMedia Studio, a web-based editing system for end users; Adaptive Device Delivery, giving non-technical end users the ability to adapt content for different devices from the Studio interface; and updated contexualization tools that includes a rules-based tool called the Context Rule Creator that enables users to define business rules to deliver content to visitors based on a given set of criteria.

Kathleen Reidy, an analyst at 451 Group, says in the past CoreMedia has been technically sophisticated, but not always friendly for end users, but the new version is meant to address that. "Implementations that carry a good deal of services, as Coremedia usually does, can be an indication that some of the business-user interfaces are lacking. So it seems Coremedia has focused on that with this Coremedia 6 release and the new Studio product in particular is meant to address this issue for content and business owners."

As for multi-device publishing, Reidy says the CoreMedia architecture is well suited for this. "Coremedia has had better support for multi-device publishing than some other WCM vendors in the past in part because it is multi-tier architecture and the abstraction layer it has for managing business logic, which can be applied to device-based delivery. Good support for multiple channels, multiple languages and multiple sites is more common with companies that have a European base, generally. So again, with this release, the company wants to expose some of that sophistication via easier-to-user business-user tools."

CoreMedia appears to be walking a line between technical sophistication and end-user ease of use, a move that's not always easy to pull off, but one they hope to achieve with this release.

CoreMedia 6 is available immediately.
