CMS Watch releases Web Analytics Report 2009
The good people over at CMS Watch came out with a report this week on web analytics, Web Analytics Report 2009. The report contained one big surprise when it concluded that Yahoo's Web Analytics were actually stronger than Google Analytics in several areas of interest to enterprise users.
Web analytics are an important part of any web content management strategy because you need to know which content people are accessing most often and which they aren't, and this becomes increasingly complicated when you manage multiple websites, as is the case in the typical enterprise setting.
And that's where CMS Watch says that Yahoo out performed Google offering "a simpler approach to multisite analytic," a much larger monthly page view limit and the ability to export your data, giving you a longer timeframe to access raw data. This last point is particularly important to some enterprise users says CMS Watch founder Tony Byrne.
"To be sure, Google retains an impressive brand name, and has made recent advances in its analytics platform, including a long-sought report API. Nevertheless, savvier enterprise customers explain that their concerns about data access and migration--especially in the absence of effective data verification services--made them queasy about signing on with Google."
Byrne points out that the free services won't work at all for some enterprises and these customers should consider a fee service like Omniture, Unica or one of the many other offerings. Regardless of which direction you go, you need to have a firm grip on your web traffic and this report can help you choose the analytics tool that's right for your organization.
