Clearwell announced a new Legal Hold module this week they say will streamline the process of adding documents to a legal hold. It's a new component in Clearwell's eDiscovery Platform product.

The idea, according to Clearwell, is to provide a tool that brings customers smoothly through the entire legal hold process in a consistent and repeatable way that should pass muster with courts.

In addition, because it's part of the overall platform (rather than a stand-alone tool), Clearwell says it provides law firms with a complete and streamlined eDiscovery solution.

Clearwell customer Wendy Curtis, chair of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe's eDiscovery Working Group says this new module solves a critical problem in the eDiscovery process. "Preservation is a critical, but time consuming and often expensive, first step in every case. Manual processes and spreadsheets are especially challenging for clients with large litigation portfolios and on large cases with numerous custodians," she said.

Clearwell should help solve Curtis' issues, but it does seem somewhat surprising that they haven't had a legal hold solution to this point.

The new module is available immediately.
