Box.net took another step this week in their ongoing mobile strategy with the introduction of a new Android application.

According to a blog post by Box.net CEO Aaron Levie, the idea behind the Box strategy is to provide a way for you to access your files from any device. They began with an iPhone and an iPad app, then this week moved to Android. According to Box, this is the fastest app they've ever built.

What's more, you can upload content directly from your Android OS 2.0 or higher supported device to Box giving you cloud-based storage over and above the local storage on your Android phone.

Levie is not about to be boxed into any single platform. As the Android platform becomes more popular, it makes sense for Box to provide support for it. Most companies with a mobile strategy have to pick which ones to support, but because Android works across a variety of phones, it makes sense to put your bet on it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them provide a similar app for BlackBerry devices at some point since they are extremely popular with business users.

Users will definitely want to be able to grab their content, whether on the web, on their PC, laptop, phone or tablet, and this gives Box a foothold on the Android platform. Judging from the comments on the Box.net blog post announcing this app, Android users are very pleased.
