Box.net updated its iPad and iPhone applications with features that make it more enterprise friendly including password protected documents for an added layer of protection, SSO log-in to provide access to enterprise identity and corporate content stores, video out to use the iPad as a presentation machine and Air Print support for document printing from the iPad and iPhone (that support this feature).

Box.net CEO Aaron Levie said that as Box continues to develop enterprise customers, they are building enterprise class functionality. "Box is continuing to move into larger organizations like Clear Channel, Dole, Dell, and Hawaiian Airlines, and we're aggressively building an enterprise-grade solution to address their content management and collaboration challenges. In the past, organizations' needs have centered around areas like workflow and metadata (which we'll continue to tackle), but mobility is now incredibly important, and will only become more so," Levie said.

Levie said the security provisions were particularly important for larger customers. "It's critically important for larger enterprises adopting new mobile solutions to have complete confidence in the security and safety of their data. We need to create better tools that let customers have the right level of control over who can access content on these devices, when and how."

He points out that consumer users who might not require that level of security, don't have to turn these features on, but they are there when needed.

The new version is available immediately.
