When I was at Enterprise 2.0 in Boston last month, one of the better presentations I saw was from Jascha Franklin-Hodge, CIO and co-founder of Blue State Digital, the agency that developed President Obama's amazingly successfully online social marketing campaign. As a business, you should be paying attention when someone like Franklin-Hodge speaks because his company understands how to set up and manage an online social media campaign.
One thing he said that stuck out was to try different things. They would experiment with different page designs, for instance, and see which one was most effective. Last week we shared some video from that presentation. Today I want to post a list of six steps to success that Franklin-Hodge explained drove the success of their online initiative:
- Drive action
- Be authentic
- Create ownership
- Be relevant
- Create a strong, open brand
- Measure everything
If you can follow these steps, you could be on your way to formulating a successful campaign too, but it takes smarts and a willingness to test and discard what doesn't work. If you're interested in hearing Franklin-Hodge's explanation of each step in this process, you can watch the full presentation by going to the Enterprise 2.0 video page and registering.
