Alfresco partners with Rational Retention on archiving and eDiscovery solution

It seems every week a new product enters the eDiscovery arena. It's really not surprising. As the government moves toward tighter regulatory requirements and litigation grows, companies need products that let them control the information they have, get rid of what they don't need and pinpoint information when asked.

The latest company to jump on the bandwagon is Alfresco, which recently announced a partnership with Rational Retention Partners. Alfresco, of course, provides the content management repository and RRP provides the eDiscovery and archiving tools.

John Powell, CEO at Alfresco explained that as litigation grows increasingly complex, "a company’s ability to offer access to critical legal documents across a range of groups--from defense teams to prosecuting attorneys--is extremely critical." He adds, "Compliance has become an expensive necessity for many organizations, and the continued consolidation of software vendors in this area--coupled with today’s challenging economic environment--has led these enterprises to pursue alternatives that reduce costs," Powell said.  “By working with Alfresco, Rational Retention is not only adding choice to the market, but also leveraging the flexibility of open source to provide customers with immediate ROI.”

As Powell pointed out, it provides another choice and it should be interesting to see how the market reacts to this latest offering.
