Adobe releases PDF creation tools for iOS
Adobe (NASDAQ: ADBE) released a new app called CreatePDF for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad this week that lets you create and email PDFs on the fly on any of these iOS devices. Adobe had previously released a similar tool for Android phones.
The App uses the same technology as the online PDF creation too on Adobe.com and supports a number of popular formats including Microsoft Office Documents, Adobe Illustrator files and several popular image formats including .jpg, .gif, .tif, .bmp and .png. (See the blog post for a full list of supported formats.)
To use it, go to the App Store and download the application. When you get a supported file on your iOS device, open it, then choose "Open with" from the menu at the top of the page and select "Open in PDFCreator." Adobe creates the PDF and then opens it in a PDF viewer. You can then share it by email if you wish.
The App is not cheap at $9.99, but it does make creating PDFs on an iOS device very convenient. Perhaps Adobe is hoping that will attract enterprise knowledge workers who might not mind shelling out 10 bucks for the convenience. Plus after searching for an alternative PDF creation tool in the App Store, I noted that there were some, but none that cover as many formats as this one.
If you need to create PDFs to share with colleagues from anywhere, this tool might be for you.
